Now that dermal fillers have become the norm in providing anti-aging treatments with regards to wrinkles, skin sagging et. to address specific areas of the face, new safer formulations are constantly being tweaked and introduced into the market. One such formulation is Profhilo, an injectable, BBDE-free stabilized concentrate of hyaluronic acid (HA). While dermal fillers are more gel-like and contain other ingredients as well as HA, Profhilo is more liquidy and has a higher concentration of HA. Some dermal fillers such as Juvederm contain about 24 mg/mL of HA as opposed to 32 mg/mL of HA that is found in Profhilo.

Unlike dermal fillers and Botox, Profhilo does not volumeize or enhance any part of the face and surrounding areas, rather, it hydrates and tightens skin uniformly and reduces wrinkles. Since HA concentration and dispersion rates are higher than in fillers, Profhilo can stimulate collagen and elastin production better than fillers.

Factors for such a wide gap in Profhilo treatment prices are found to be mainly because:

  • Brand awareness of the clinic: treatment from a more reputable hospital will be costlier than a clinic not widely known to people. Institutions make huge investments to build a trusted brand and patients are supposed to pay a premium because of it.
  • Location: Clinics located in Jumeirah, Downtown, or Dubai Marina need to pay higher rents, multiple times more than similarly sized facilities located in less expensive areas of Dubai. Clinics in costlier areas, in turn, will charge more for otherwise similar services accordingly.
  • Experience of the practitioner: It is quite understandable that you pay more for a service from a more experienced practitioner. In addition to that, if you get treatment from a doctor not a technician, it would cost you more. Among doctors, you will need to pay

A few principles to note regarding the price of Profhilo in Dubai are as follows:

Profhilo Prices in Dubai

The most trusted Profhilo product used by Clinics in Dubai is sourced from the Swiss pharmaceutical company, Institute Biochemical SA (IBSA).

For the face, a 2 mL Profhilo injectable covers 10 injections points. The specialist injects 0.2 mLs in 5 points on either side of the face using a specific technique called the Bio Aesthetic Point (BAP).

For the neck, a 2 mL Profhilo injectable also covers 10 injections points. The specialist injects 0.2 mLs in 4 points on either side of the neck, and 4 points down the center of the neck, similalry using the Bio Aesthetic Point (BAP) technique.

Patients should know that 1 session of Profhilo (2 mL) starts at AED 1,000 and can reach a maximum of AED 2,200 per session. Patients can expect to pay on average AED 1,600 per session. Clinics or specialists may recommend 2 or 3 sessions that are 1 month apart, and based on the total number of sessions, specialists or clinics can reduce prices even further.

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding Profhilo in Dubai:

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is a BBDE-free, 64 mg of pure hyaluronic acid in a 2 mL syringe.

Who can perform Profhilo in Dubai?

In Dubai, Profhilo injections are covered under the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Health Regulation Department for the Standards for Non Surgical Cosmetic Services, and Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA) for Standards for Non Surgical Cosmetic Procedures. Dermatologists, and plastic surgeons with a valid DHA/DHCA license can perform Profhilo injections without needing any further requirements.

General physicians can also perform Profhilo injections but must first obtain specific training, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Continuous Medical Education (CME) hours, hands-on practical training, and completion of aesthetic cases under specialists. All of which need to be inline with the guidelines stipulated and approved by DHA and DHCA.

Profhilo injections in clinics must always be performed with the availability of at least one dermatologist or plastic surgeon on the premises of the clinic.

It is also recommended to always check the credentials of those performing the procedure through 3rd party sources like DrFive.com or the clinic's own website to ensure they have the right expertise and experience.

What are the benefits of Profhilo?

For patients who are not looking to accentuate specific features of their face and neck, such as having fuller cheeks, or improving under eye, Profhilo could be the better and more subtle alternative for improving overall tone and texture of skin. The higher concentration of hyaluronic acid (HA) is better absorbed and dispersed throughout the skin and provides a more uniform improvement to the overall features of the face and neck. Profhilo also works well to naturally stimulate collagen and elastin production which works well to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the face.

Who is the right candidate for Profhilo?

Anyone over the age of 18 years old, in relatively good health, is a suitable candidate for Profhilo treatments. Profhilo is not recommended for pregnant or breast-feeding women, and it is always better to consult directly with a specialist. In addition, people with skin infections in and around the areas that need to be treated should also speak to their specialist first.

What do you experience during Profhilo?

A Profhilo session takes about 15 to 30 minutes minutes to complete. Patients may experience some mild discomfort during the injections and in some cases mild bruising and swelling.

What are the potential risks with Profhilo?

Other than the immediate discomforts such as mild pains, bruising and swelling associated with Profhilo, the treatment is considered relatively safe. However, some elevated and rare side effects include skin infections, and allergic reactions.

How long does Profhilo last?

Based on a two-session Profhilo treatment (4 weeks apart), clinics state that the effects of Profhilo are seen within 24 hours of the treatment and last for approximately 6 months. Longer term results are based on the specialist’s recommendation, follow up sessions and patient profile.

What are some alternatives to Profhilo injections?

In Asia, some injectables, other than Profhilo, are popular, namely Skinboosters and Rejuran Healer. Other types of uncrosslinked HA injectables, similar to Profhilo, are Jalupro and Sunekos. Profhilo and similar injectables contain the highest levels of Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA is naturally produced in our body and starts to decrease as we age. It serves as a major component in keeping our skin, among other things in our body, lubricated. Having a balanced diet rich in greens and Vitamin C works best in replinishing HA in our body. Additionally, the use of supplements with our diets helps greatly.
