We asked Dr Jehad some important questions on the minds of patients here in Dubai and he shared with us some important information about his field of expertise and some complex patient cases.
Many times patients suffering from chronic headaches will end up seeing neurologists, ENTs and other specialists without a conclusive diagnosis of their condition. I once treated a patient complaining of chronic headaches and pain that had been worsening over a period of 10 years while also gradually restricting her jaw movement. After an MRI scan, we found both the patient’s left and right joints in the jaw had been dislocated, causing ankylosis, a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. Other conditions that could lead to TMJ such as malocclusion of the teeth which is a misalignment of the jaw.
For TMJ, I specialize in arthroplasty, which is a high-precision surgery to repair and reposition joints within the jaw using the patient’s original tissue. In parallel, I also conduct Orthognathic Surgery to correct the overall conditions of the jaw. And to treat facial deformities in patients who have retruded or protruded upper jaw. Furthermore, Blepharoplasty for correcting deformities in and around the eyelids, Rhinoplasty to improve breathing and facial aesthetics, cleft lip and palate and other treatments related to the head and neck. I also specialize in endoscopic face lift surgery which is a recent upgrade to traditional face lifts.
The surgery is less invasive which means a shorter recovery time. The procedure is also more accurate since it uses a lighted endoscope camera to target hard-to-reach and specific areas for treatment. This also gives the surgeon a comprehensive overview of the facial anatomy. From an aesthetic perspective, it’s a scar-less procedure.
I once treated a two-year old boy who ingested household chemicals which deformed his palate, upper and lower lip and left him with severe adhesions. In another rare case, I treated a nine-year old patient suffering from a congenital or developmental cyst. Once we had undertaken the decision to perform the emergency surgery, we removed the cyst that measured 4 X 8 cm in diameter. It was the biggest congenital cyst of its kind reported in scientific journals or as a medical condition.
