DrFive team finally paid a visit to the famous Mankhool Dental Clinic

The team has been anticipating making this visit as the clinic has been mentioned numerous times on multiple forums whenever the topic: “where is the reasonably priced dental clinic with good skills?” came up.

Also, we wanted to go visit the clinic in person as the clinic has been known to be difficult to locate. The third reason that made the visit all the more important is that the owner/dentist of the clinic, Dr Madhu Mathews, have been mentioned by patients multiple times as a dentist “who never recommends unnecessary treatments” and “has a magical hands to treat without pain”.

Mankhool Dental Clinic is located in Karama

Next to Zaa’beel street opposite to Mr Bakers and Emirates NBD. It is sitting on the 1st floor of a commercial building housing “Elco restaurant” and “Chowking restaurant” on the ground floor easily recognizable from the main road. If you are still confused, find the the Civil Defense building first, the building stands next to that.

If you can, we recommend you to park your car at the parking space next to the building – not in front - which is approachable from behind the building, as the entrance to access the lift is not at the front but on the side of the building (on the left side, to be exact, if your perspective is from the main road). If you fancy some exercise, park on the opposite side of the road and take the pedestrian crossing bridge which exits in front of Chowking restaurant.

Entrance

Once you enter the clinic, you will feel that the clinic is clean, neat and very well maintained. The waiting area is quite spacious and comfortable. The staff are all soft-spoken, kind and, most importantly, smiling. It didn’t take long to notice that all this brilliant attitudes of the staff actually originate from the medical director, Dr Madhu Mathews himself.

Dr Madhu Mathews is an endodontist

Or, in plain English, a root canal specialist. He came to Dubai in 1999 to work at a dental clinic in Bur Dubai and opened his own clinic in Zabeel road, Karama in 2008, at its current location.

He believes excellence in the dental practice comes from continuous learning and application of the knowledge, so it is important for him to schedule of himself to and attend conferences and engage with his fellow endodontists through the specialty medical society.

His strive for advancement in his specialty is well-represented with the imposing microscope in the treatment room that helps him identify and treat the roots in a super-accurate way.

During the visit, we had a chance to sit with Dr Mathews, - always calm, smiling and soft-spoken -, and below is a summary of our discussion.

Q: What do you think makes a good endodontist?

A: Mostly patients come with pain. So helping patients to feel satisfied after the treatment is the most important part of our job. Depending on many factors including the level of pain and diagnostic criteria a proper diagnosis is made and a decision made to restore or do root canal treatment before the restoration is made.

All the dentists are aware of the biological aspect of root canal treatment. The mechanical part of this treatment is easy but the biologic part has to be done with utmost care and precision and it is a moral and mental commitment to a fellow human being.

Q: How does this microscope help with your diagnosis and treatment?

A: Walt Disney has said ‘If you can dream it, you can do it” In dentistry it can be modified as “If you can see it you can do it”. A Dental Operating Microscope helps in achieving this by enhanced magnification, illumination and visibility. So when we are looking for a hidden root canal or trying to remove a separated instrument from canal, the better visibility helps a lot to do it right. Issues in the oral cavity which are not visible to naked eye can also be identified under a microscope.

Q: Many people mention your clinic is providing dental treatment service in a very ethical manner. What’s your view on this?

A: I don’t think we are exceptionally different from other dental clinics in Dubai and I believe most dentists here are providing services as they should either in pricing or in the decision of the treatment methods. I am just one of them who tries to follow the principles and standards.

Q: Who are the right patients to come visit you at Mankhool Dental Clinic?

A: I am an endodontist, so anyone with tooth pain can come to me. Our clinic also has specialists providing general dentistry, Implants and orthodontic services, so anyone with any dental issues can come visit us for treatments. Also we accept referral cases of difficult root canal treatment and retreatments.
