Prof. Köhrmann is a Specialist Urological Surgeon of the University of Heidelberg and Head of the Urological Department the Theresienkrankenhaus Mannheim. His clinical focus is the early detection, diagnosis, and management of genitourinary malignancy, and using minimally invasive techniques to treat benign and malignant diseases.
Dr. Köhrmann is committed to offering his patients rapid access one-stop urology diagnostic service, helping them make better-informed decisions about both treatments and management of short- and long-term treatment sequels.
He performs laparoscopic, endoscopic, and percutaneous surgeries, and is interested in incorporating promising new technologies into his practice. His other interests include the treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia, voiding dysfunction and kidney stone disease.
His research interests include prostate cancer detection by multi-parametric MRI together with image-fused biopsies, as well as being one of a handful of surgeons who lead the advanced treatment of prostatic cancer with High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). Furthermore, he is involved in improving minimal invasive treatment of urinary stones by endoscopy including flexible ureterorenoscopy using laser lithotripsy.
Dr. Kai Uwe Köhrmann grew up in the region of Frankfurt, Germany, earning his undergraduate degree in 1978.
He then attended medical school at the Mainz University, acquiring his medical and doctoral degree in 2005. He then went on to serve as a military doctor (PiBtl.1 Holzminden) and thereafter, as a resident in the Institute for Pathology Wuppertal and in the Department of General Surgery Offenbach, each for around one year.
For his residency training, he changed to the Urological Department of the Medical Faculty Mannheim at the Heidelberg University, which he completed in 1993. He stayed in this department for his scientific work to be graduated as Professor in 1995. Dr. Kai Uwe Köhrmann expended his clinical expertise as a consultant and afterward as senior to become an assistant medical director in 2001. He changed to Theresienkrankenhaus in Mannheim in 2003 as head of the urological department.
