Dr. Kaplan is the Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at Tawam Hospital, and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, UAEU, he previously held the positions of Interim Chief Medical Officer, Tawam Hospital, and Assistant Professor Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism at The Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children?s Hospital, Houston, Texas. He is certified by The American Board of Pediatrics and Sub-board of Pediatric Endocrinology.
Dr. Kaplan received his MD from the Damascus University, School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Hurley Medical Center, Flint, Michigan, and sub-specialty training in Pediatric Endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine Houston, Texas. Additionally, he obtained his Academy Fellowship Certificate in 2008.
Dr. Kaplan has noteworthy Administrative Experience as Pediatric Chief Resident during 2003-2004, at Michigan State University and served as Medical Director at Port Arthur Community Health Center, Inc. 1995-1998. He chaired the Department of Pediatrics, Tawam Hospital, Johns Hopkins International from 2005-2010. During the same time, he was quite involved in the preparation for the initial JCIA accreditation and subsequent re-accreditation of Tawam Hospital, Medical Staff Privileging and Credentialing, and a new hospital-wide, objective-based physicians performance evaluation system.
Dr. Kaplan is sub-specializes in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, and he attends a regular clinic at Tawam Hospital. He is a member of Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society, The Endocrine Society, The Emirates Diabetes Society, and UAE Endocrine Club.
Dr. Kaplan has received several awards for outstanding achievement, such as Government Scholarship after finishing medical school, Certificate of Excellence from Port Arthur Community Health center in 2000, National Diabetes Guidelines Appreciation Award by UAE Ministry of Health in 2009, and listed among America?s Top Pediatricians in 2010.
