Dr. Valia is a Greek-British Paediatrician that graduated from the University of Patras, School of Medicine, Greece in 1992 with grade ‘Very good’. She then moved to London, UK to train as a Paediatrician in many busy University Hospitals to name a few: King’s College Hospital, St.Thomas’ Hospital, Guy’s Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital.
She is a specialist registered in Paediatrics since 19 October 2004 both in Greece and the UK, as she was entered in GMC’s Specialist Register UK, as a fully registered medical practitioner with specialist registration in Paediatrics.
During the years 1995-1998 at the Neonatal Unit King’s College Hospital, London she conducted clinical research in the field of neonatal respiratory medicine doing an MD research thesis. She completed it successfully and after oral examination, she was awarded the MD research title by the University of London in December 2010.She was also involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at King’s College London.
She has published many peer-reviewed articles in scientific magazines during her time as a research fellow. She has also presented her research in many National and International Congress and Seminars in the past years.
Dr. Valia was a Clinical Fellow in Respiratory Medicine Paediatric Respiratory Department at Royal Brompton Hospital, National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London, UK for 2 years 2003-2005, the largest specialist heart and lung center in the United Kingdom. On her return to Greece in 2005, she worked in the private sector in where she had her own private pediatric practice looking after babies and children from birth up to 18 years of age.
Then in 2015 she transferred to UAE Abu Dhabi where she organized the pediatric department in a private medical center looking after children from all nationalities.
She has a special interest in Paediatric Pulmonology and follows up of children with respiratory diseases mainly wheezing disorders, cough, and asthma and performs lung function tests -spirometry in the older cooperative children in order to make the diagnosis and determine treatment response and compliance. She teaches parents how to recognize and respond to an acute exacerbation of asthma as well as correct inhaled drug administration techniques. She assesses and treats preterm babies with regard to their respiratory problems such as bronchiolitis, exacerbations of a cough and viral induced wheeze.
She also follows up infants and children on a regular basis to assess their growth and development. She offers primary care by administering immunisations, giving advice to parents regarding their children’s healthy diet, activity and disease prevention. Dr. Valia joined Drs. Nicolas and Asp in March 2017.
