Dr Shefali Verma, Partner and Medical Director of the Institute for Biophysical Medicine in Dubai, is an integrative General Practitioner with a special interest in Functional Medicine.
Dr. Shefali has held many prestigious previous appointments, providing private consultations for major corporate organisations, government offices and private clients including The Prime Minister’s Office at the Government of Dubai, Emirates NBD, The Executive Council at the Government of Dubai and Nasco Koraoglan Insurance. In 2010, Dr. Shefali Verma became a Functional Medicine Specialist in Dubai Healthcare City.
Born in the UK, to doctor parents, Dr. Shefali Verma moved to Sharjah in 1981. Sport played an important role in the doctor’s childhood and she was awarded Senior Athlete Of The Year in 13th Grade and competed in the Premier Division Women’s Squash League. On her return to the UK, Dr Shefali Verma graduated from the University of Manchester in 2000. From 2001-2002, she gained an MSc in Sports Medicine, graduating in 2002 as the youngest in her class and one of only two females to complete the course. Dr. Shefali Verma covered the Commonwealth Boxing in Manchester in 2002 and held a position as Honorary Clinical Assistant in Sports Medicine at the Royal London Hospital. In 2008, Dr. Shefali returned to Dubai where she initially consulted privately for major corporate organizations, government and private sectors.
As a Functional Medicine Specialist, Dr. Shefali specializes in the treatment and management of a variety of chronic conditions. Food intolerance and allergies, management of digestive diseases, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, detoxification, prevention of disease and weight management are just some examples of what Dr. Shefali deals with on a day to day basis.
The mother of twin daughters, and wife of David Johnson, one of the leading Sports Therapists in Dubai and Partner of Transform Medical and Fitness, this accomplished doctor enjoys sports in her spare time. She is also a Poliquin Level 2 Strength Coach and a brand ambassador for Hautletic.
A keen educator, Dr. Shefali Verma continues to support organisations and schools, teaching on the process of disease and espousing the philosophy that “An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth A Pound Of Cure”.
Dr. Shefali holds an MBChB from the University of Manchester School of Medicine and Dentistry, an MSc (UK) in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University of London and a Postgraduate Degree in Nutritional Therapy from the University of Greenwich in London.
