Dr. Merel has over 10 years experience in Family Medicine. She grew up in The Netherlands and studied at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, where she qualified as a General Practitioner in 2007. She earned her qualification as a Specialist in Family Medicine in 2012.
During her specialization, Dr. Merel focused on Emergency Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, care for the mentally and physically disabled and Palliative Care.
Dr. Merel has a broad interest in all aspects of Family Medicine and has a holistic view on patients and their complaints. Dr. Merel is often appreciated for her communication skills which she believes is the most important qualification for a General Practitioner. Furthermore, her work is characterized by a personal approach, preventive care and focus on the patient?s needs in a broader context (i.e., family, work, religion, etc.). Whilst evidence-based medicine is the focus of her practice, Dr. Merel acknowledges that in some cases alternative or complementary medicine should be considered.
In addition to Family Medicine Dr. Merel offers medical check-ups for all ages, immunizations, travelers advice, female check-ups and small procedures.
After practicing in Dubai for over 3 years, she built up her network in the local health system and understands the needs of both Emirati and expatriates. Dr. Merel is fluent in English and Dutch.
