A cholesterol test or lipid profile is blood test that measures 4 types of fats (lipids) in your blood.

 

Inclusions

1. Total cholesterol which is simply the sum of your blood’s cholesterol content.

2. High density lipoprotein or (HDL) cholesterol is regarded as “good cholesterol” and is responsible for removing plaque buildup and essential in preventing heart disease and strokes.

3. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is considered as “bad cholesterol” and is mainly responsible for the build-up of plaque in your arteries and the cause of heart attacks and strokes.

4. Very low-density lipoprotein VLDL is created by the liver and released it into your bloodstream.

5. Triglycerides is the most common form of fat found in the body and comes mainly from vegetable oils and animal fats.

6. LDL/HDL Ratio is simply dividing your low-density with your high-density lipoprotein number.

7. Total Cholesterol to HDL Ratio (TC/HDL) is simply dividing your total cholesterol number by your high-density lipoprotein number. The higher the ratio, the higher the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
